Track & Field Camp Humphreys

In the year 2024 Spring, I was interested in participating in the Track & Field team where I could train my sprinting form and increase my endurance in long-distance running. Since I played various sports at a young age and started running from elementary school, I knew this would be a great opportunity to learn good sportsmanship, companionship, and leadership skills in high school Track & Field.

We tried various events divided into running, jumping, and throwing to decide the best events individuals could participate in. I chose middle and long-distance runs which are 800m, 1600m, and 3200m because I have the advantage of having strong endurance making me feel confident in running middle and long-distance runs. My teammates and I organized our 4x100m relay for the first team we ever harmonized together, however, not all of us are getting along with each other. One of us is introverted shows up rarely in training and does not communicate more often while the rest of us participate in training every time and give feedback to each other. We tried to invite him to small talk and jokes creating a friendly mood in this community which helped very much in solving awkward situations.

My favorite part of this community was our Coach Chamberlain who supported and gave precious advice that inspired us to get motivated more in developing ourselves into a better athlete and feel the joy of this Track & Field team. Moreover, we participated in Camp Huphreys’ track and field meet in Pyeongtaek, obtaining new experiences with other foreign athletes and coaches. I was surprised by the scale of this international competition between international schools from diverse backgrounds. Some schools have had their track and field tradition for decades, and they are highly respected by other schools making me feel smaller and get compared to them. Throughout this experience, I dedicated myself to getting stronger by building my muscles and healthier by eating a lot of good foods and practicing abstinence.

In general, I am proud of myself for being part of the track and field community having valuable experience, and making good relationships with my teammates which gives me trustworthiness and the feeling of nostalgia. I look forward to challenging myself in short-distance runs which are 100m, 200m, and 400m in the future, giving advice to young athletes who are dedicated to themselves, and welcoming new people who are interested in SJA Jeju Track & Field in the future.

Oxford University Summer Camp (July 14~27, 2024) This summer, I had the extraordinary opportunity to participate in the Physics program at the Oxford University Summer Camp. The experience was nothing short of transformative. I had the privilege of meeting and bonding with fellow students from diverse backgrounds, including the UK, Taiwan, Germany, and France.     The academic aspect of the camp was equally enriching. Lectures delivered by world-renowned Oxford professors offered me a glimpse into the cutting-edge research in physics. The small class sizes and interactive teaching style fostered a stimulating learning environment, allowing me to engage deeply with complex concepts.   Beyond the classroom, I embr...
